What was actually photographed

The imagery genuinely associated with this compound comes from the 2017 study, and it is of mice [1].

The paper reported that treated animals, both the fast-ageing XpdTTD/TTD strain and naturally aged mice, showed restored fur density. That is a visible, photographable change, and images of treated versus untreated animals circulated widely when the work reached the general press. The same study reported restored fitness, measured through physical performance, and improved renal function measured biochemically.

Those are real results and real photographs. They document a mouse coat becoming denser. They do not document a human anything, and the visual similarity to a human "before and after" is exactly what makes the confusion so easy.

The distance is larger than it looks. Fur density in a laboratory mouse is a convenient visible proxy for tissue health in an animal with a defined genetic background, controlled diet, controlled environment and a short lifespan.
